HI ALL|
well, just a week ago i bought my first Uniden HP-1 scanner. Im highly impressed with it so far. I drive a big rig for a living, i travel 3 states .Ohio, Michigan, Indiana. I installed it in my truck .Im lovin it already,When i hit a different border, i wait till i get in about 60 miles ,then hit the auto locate .My main concern is to hear the state patrol and dot. this thing picks up all the patrol units up. i do the same when i get into another state.I had a RS PRO-106 ,it was only good about for 60 miles..I had Randy from St, marys, Ohio, program it. He,s really good at programing the new digital scanners.Anyways, I needed something that i could travel out of state with. The HP-1 is perfect for travelling throu different states. this unit is small and compact, and is easy to conceal it, when needed to.Some states dont allow you listen to them.in fact, its small enough to put it in your pocket. Way to go Uniden! So on a truckers view, i give this unit an A+. I got tired of tranfering the HP-1 to my big truck to my little truck all the time.So i went and bought a 2nd HP-1 ,from ebay for $350.By the way,I have my RS PRO-106 on ebay for sale. I have a 2nd RS PRO-106 to sell if i can find the box and manual for it.

You're probably looking at the serial port connector. That would go to a port labeled as "Com 1" on a pc, though many newer computers, especially laptops, do not have serial ports. For the HP-1, you're connecting the GPS directly to the scanner, not through a pc.

Yes you need both the cable and the gps puck unit to use the gps system.
BWZG1844001 GPS cable plugs in to the HP 1 unit and the other end plugs in to the gps18x pc puck witch has a power end for the cigarette lighter, for power. You never have to reprogram as you move from location to location with this unit in the on position it does it automaticaly.

Also, you might be interested in knowing that with the Argent Data GTRANS Garmin to NMEA Translator Cable, you can use one of the following Garmin automobile GPS devices for BOTH navigation AND NMEA-0183 data to your HP-1 simultaneously. The benefit of this, at least for me anyway, is fewer power cords and lower cost. I look at it this way, I am going to have an automobile GPS in my car anyway, why not get double duty out of it!

Candy the cable I showed you on the web site I posted was 25.90 with shipping.
The GPS is only online Office Depot they don't have it in any stores I was told. That was 69.91 with tax no shipping that was free.

Hp-1

Hello,
I don`t mean to butt in to your conversation, but i recently recieved a HP-1 and i love it, I am going to purchase a GPS for the car and am wondering if I can hook them up together. I looked a some cables and the GPS does not have a 9 pin connector on the side ? is there one that will connect directly to each other ?

Yes, you can use a Garmin automotive GPS and connect to the Uniden Home Patrol HP-1. Above is a link to my installation. The biggest shortcoming is you have to use an Argent Data Systems GTRANS Garmin to NMEA Translator Cable (D-Sub Style) GTRANS Garmin to NMEA Translator Cable (D-Sub Style) - Argent Data Systems - APRS Hardware

Here is the list of compatible Garmin GPS units:

Garmin nüvi 300 series
StreetPilot c340
StreetPilot 7000 series
StreetPilot 2820 series
StreetPilot 2720 series
zumo 400 series
zumo 500 series

You will find out that none of those are current production Garmins. You would have to get one second hand somewhere like Ebay or Craigslist.

uniden hp-1 ,very impressive scanner -update

Hi everybody'

well i went and got both cables, total cost $95 . Im again highly impressed with the improved performance with the GPS antenna hooked up to the HP-1 . I drive a big rig to Cincinatta twice daily and back.to west central Ohio .The HP-1 usually updates twice in the 120 miles to cincy. I also travel to just north of Kalimazoo.mi once a week , the hp updates 3 times .this only takes about a few seconds to update automatically. I have the gps puck located on my dash and seems to work great there.
