I have 2 Uniden P996P2 and one works great but the other one won't pick up St Louis Fire system. Are there any adjustments I can make to help receive the system. It is programmed with the same Butel software and will receive if I drive close to the city.

Scanner Reset
Allows to initialize the scanner’s memory, turn off the scanner. Then press 2, 9, and HOLD while turning it on.
Important! This deletes all programmed data .

I would reset the scanner, then swap antennas to see if the scanners operate the same with different antennas assuming it's the antenna.

Good luck.

Not sure but will check both Thanks
If you can swap scanners, you may get a better ideal of the problem. If the problem stays with the scanner then it's a scanner problem otherwise it could be a simulcast, antenna, or location (coverage or dead spots) problem.

I Just checked both scanners and they have the same settings and so the one i don't receive St Louis city is definately worth the price i paid for it.

They seem to be on talk groups in a simulcast system. Check the serial# on the two scanners. If they only differ by the last couple of digits they should be from the same batch and behave the same. The last 4-5 digits are the individual number and to the left are a bunch of zeros and then comes the number for the manufacturing plant, a 8 are Vietnam, and to the left of that are the last digit of the year.

If they are from different batches then the component values could be different, but still within tolerances, but will then handle simulcast differently. Also the exact frequency in the scanner can be different and that could be real important when trying to receive simulcast transmissions.

Are they both in the same location?
To add to what Kevin had said, are both scanners at the same location and in the same room? If in the same room, are they side by side, or perhaps in different places in the room?

And which antenna are you using? The telescoping antenna that came with the scanners? Or something else. If the telescoping antennas are being used, are they extended the same length?

If the scanners are in the same room, but not side by side, try swapping locations, If the problem stays with the physical location (in your room or whatever), then it's likely being affected by simulcast. Simulcast issues are extremely location specific. Sometimes moving a scanner a foot or two makes all the difference between working, or not.

my simulcast problem.
out system has gone to 700 P25 P2 simulcast.
on the old 800 the wife liked the radio in the middle of the window next to her.
with the 700 i found the best was with the radio in a cell phone holder turned horizontal with the antenna stuck into the aluminium frame with a race antenna on it,
she hated it.
BUT we now have an SDS100 and it works fine at every place in the house.
i use the old radio to listen to the input frequencies of the system as they are still using phase 1 and there is no simulcast that way.

Both running the same firmware? Do both RX the same weather channels at the same strength?

I have some great news, I finally figured out the problem and am happy with the results. It was in the P25 threshold. I took off the auto and placed the number at a 5 and it works great. That blows my mind with all the messing around with it and wanting to unload it and it was just a setting on the radio. THANKS to all of the suggestions as i really did try everything.
