I would have to say the Pro-96. I have them both the uniden 296d and the 796d they are more difficult to program. My Pro-96 is cake to program.
I have had the uniden for three months befoe i bought the after market software. Its good once you buy the after market software.

What if he wants to monitor LTR? Or Narrow EDACS? That's why questions like these are useless - tell us what you like to listen to and we'll help, but "What scanner is best" has no value as a question.

I like Uniden. I have the 246t and the 250D. Love them both. Just my opinion. Don't have anything against RS, I like the V folders idea.

He only asked which WE PREFER, not which is BETTER (those are two completely different questions) - not which does LTR or ED-N.

I have to go with the PRO-96 for analog or digital - it's just more versitile for my applications. Each has advantages. See here for details:

But my answer is still the same: I prefer the PRO-96.

Now when the BCD396T comes out, that MAY change, but right now it's not an option.
