Hello everyone. First of all, apologies if this has been covered off in a previous thread; I couldn't find one, hence I started this one.

I recently got a Uniden 3500 handheld scanner which so far I love to bits, but as a relative newbie to uniden scanners, let's just say I'm finding the rather spartan instruction manual less than easy to understand.

First question : How do I use quick keys; I can find in the menu how to set a quick key to a system and a group, but then what ??

Second question : The manual says a groups quick key must be activated to be scanned. However I can't find anywhere in the manual that shows me explicitly how to activate/deactivate a channel, so I'm stumped.

Third question : When scanning, the display at the bottow shows two rows "S0" and "GRP". I've worked out that GRP probably means group, but I've not fathomed out the "S0" bit. I'm guessing something to do with systems, but what the numbers mean on that line ? Not a clue.

I'd be really grateful for help, before I have to reach for any more aspirins. Many thanks in advance !!

This should help a lot: http://myweb.cableone.net/marksscanners/3500/3500.html

http://myweb.cableone.net/marksscanners/3500/3500.html#system keys Simple answer is that Quick keys turn on/off groups and systems easily...like banks in a bank scanner.
http://myweb.cableone.net/marksscanners/3500/3500.html#display S0-9: shows the first digit of the currently scanned system quick key on the left followed by the blinking second digit (1-0) on the right:
a - means nothing is assign to the quick key.
an * means the quick key is turned off.
Since you haven't assigned a quick key, you probably see S0. Besides being able to turn on/off, assigning a quick key will now show in the display as it is scanned.

Fantastic ! Thanks a lot Clint, that's really helpful.

(After shipping and foreign exchange conversion, I paid the equivalent of $260 for the scanner in the UK, so the flimsy manual was rather disappointing. If I worked at Uniden I'd fell embarassed that someone else had to re-write the manual and put it on the internet.)

Apart from that, I'm really delighted with my purchase. I've picked up loads of interesting stuff on it already and I've had it less than a week !

Many, many thanks for the help once again.

Bob (aka Grisssom, after the guy in CSI)
