Hello,
A friend of mine has 2 uniden radios and is wondering if they can be used to receive police and fire departments in Lake County.
He has the BC 355N and the BC 125AT.
Thanks

The answer is no. Lake County Public Safety operates on the P25 Phase-II trunked system linked below. You'll need a P25 Phase-II (TDMA) capable scanner to bring them in, see list of capable receivers here. Ideally a Uniden SDS100 or SDS200 to overcome simulcast distortion likely to be faced when bringing this system in with other capable scanners

Adding to above statement, fully encrypted talkgroups on the system are denoted as mode "TE". Mode "T" talkgroups are "in the clear"

There are very, very few Public Safety agencies anywhere in IN that you can use those scanners for any more. Most use the SAFE-T, or their own P25 TRS. Some still conventional have gone to NXDN, with a couple DMR. The days of basic scanner use in IN are pretty much long gone for Public Safety monitoring.

Almost every rural community in Indiana still uses VHF/UHF analog FM pagers for their Fire Depts, and/or EMS. I'd be willing to bet 92 out of 92 counties in Indiana still have some form of public safety on VHF/UHF analog FM.
