Uniden really missed an opportunity with the SDS100.

With the way the battery door can be removed, it's too bad Uniden did not design the battery with a seperate set of contacts on the door side. This way they could have sold an aftermarket door with contacts that could be used with an aftermarket drop in charger. In my mind that would be easier than having to remove the battery door every day or constantly having to plug in a cord that will put wear on the connector over time. It would be so much more practical to simply set the radio in a charger overnight.

If anyone from Uniden is reading this, please consider it, I'll be happy to buy a charger, door and battery kit. Of course since this is my idea, please feel free to send me one for free. ;)

Great to hear someone else agreeing with the many others who have suggested the same thing on here.

Sorry, if I knew others had already suggested it, I wouldn't have made the post. I guess great minds think alike! :)
This site is so large, there is not enough time in the day to read all the posts going back to 2018.

I've always wished they had this capability. The only thing I'd add is that it must work for the small and large battery doors.

Perhaps they considered it a safety issue with exposed contacts. I imagine that after reading the suggestions here, someone will come up with a custom pack and charger for the 100.

It would be an easy change. Contacts on both side of the battery. A battery door that translates the contacts on the battery to contacts on the cover to make contact with the drop in charger. In fact, a company interested in making aftermarket accessories for the SDS100 could do it.

It's possible that they did not do it for safety reasons. Not sure about the voltage and amperage of the Uniden battery packs, and I've seen people get zapped when mishandling the exposed contacts on powerful battery packs.
Yep, this does happen. I warmed up a battery once that I'd slipped into my pants pocket while carrying groceries in. My car keys managed to short the contacts and the battery became very hot very fast!
Uniden could have done this had they designed well recessed contacts into the battery doors. Some type of contact arrangement like laptop batteries use. Laptop batteries are pretty hard to short out unless you drop the battery into a bucket of fine metal shavings or powder from a grinding operation or something like that.

LMR radio manufacturers have been doing this for decades. It's as easy as adding a diode and a fuse.
