My SDS100 started having the J401/solder joint issue, so I sent it in to Uniden for repair. I made a note on the repair form that it had my internal GPS mod installed, and asked them not to remove or disable it. I also sent it in with one of my custom battery latches.

I got it back today, and the issue has been fixed, and the internal GPS mod still works. I had to pay the flat-rate repair fee because it wasn't in warranty any more (I was one of the first buyers), but the mod doesn't seem to have complicated the repair process significantly.

I've had questions from several customers about repairs of modded scanners over the years, and now I have an answer.

Poor reception, odd pulsing static on most analog frequencies, and no RSSI value or signal bars shown, even when a transmission is being received.

Too bad they charged you for the repair. Not fair.

Glad they left your awesome mod alone!

Has anyone ever confirmed what joint they are referring to that is cold? Is it the board interconnect header?
