Putting this here as I would like perspective from current Ontario folks. Has anyone had to send a scanner to Uniden for repair recently (in the past 3 to 6 months "Tarrif Season"), and if so, can you advise what shipping method you used to avoid brokerage fees etc.? I'm aware there "should" be no tarrifs charged as it's going for repair, but I need to send one of my units down and want to know the best way to approach it. I'm thinking Canada Post, but I'll wait for replies. Thank you!

before sending get a RA (return authorization) otherwise your going to run into all kinds of headaches. Especially with Canada Post.

TL;DR it's not worth the hassle.

The way it was explained to me on a not-Uniden electronic warranty repair, the exporter (repair company) have to pay tariffs on the parts and labour effected to repair the unit in the US, who then billed me for reimbursement before allowing the item to be shipped back. And hope you can talk to someone in the US on the return path as well and not get whacked with brokerage, duties, taxes AND reimbursing the company for tariffs they're paying. Ultimately you may end up needing to pay the tariffs and then apply for a refund when or if that is allowed. Shipping to/from the US is not for small-volume consumer shippers who don't have legal guidance. Good luck.

Just sent my old Uniden 436 back for a new keypad the total was $135.55 US
First go to this Page,
Print out the form, and follow the directions.

I sent it with Post Canada, no problems. Got tracking number. Also on the Uniden site it will show the status of your order. When it's fixed Uniden will send you a bill to pay for the fix, click on it and pay it, then the scanner will be sent back to you. I got mine back in a little over two weeks, no problems. As far as Canada Post charges bring in the packages and they will tell you how much it will cost. Sent from Fort Erie Ont.

I have personally used Uniden Repair during this whole US-Canada trade issue. I did have to pay some duties but I dont remember seeing any tarrifs or tarrif codes on my commercial invoice paperwork.

As far as I am aware, They've never had an issue with a Canadian customer sending an item to their Texas repair facility.

However, please do yourself and favour and use UPS, FedEx, or DHL to send your repair. DO NOT use Canada Post! You will need a PhD to complete thier customs form and other paperwork (which their website constantly refreshes and crashes when trying to fill out their online only form). Canada Post staff have been less than helpfu, but that's another topic altogether.

You might just have to take your lumps and pay the $40-$60 to get your item there via the couriers I mentioned. It's usually there the next day. Turnaround time is usually 14-20 days, sometimes a month if they are backed up or if your repair is delivered on a holiday. Since they moved their repair facility from Roanoke to Flower Mound, I found Uniden has really streamlined the process.

I appreciate you reaching out before sending it via snail mail and having headaches down the road. All the best with your repair.

I appreciate that input, I'm an expert on completing cross border paperwork, but I'll factor that in. I do have a commercial Purolator account so may just go that route. On the other hand, I may also just drive to Buffalo and ship it from there lol. I like Niagara Falls haha. "What brings you to the USA?" "Paperwork red-tape BS" ;)

This is not an option on the Uniden site according to the instructions.

Too bad the repair place in Peterborough (Lectron?) isn't around any more. Would have made life much easier.

With all these tariffs and other roadblocks popping up it would not surprise me to see some of the smarter USA based manufacturers decide to open a Canadian repair/service and distribution location.

Gary we can only hope!!

I have a broken SDS100. Was quoted around $130 $USD and pay shipping to Tex-ass.

When I have funds, I'll send. Rarely use scanners anymore, the friends and group aren't friends anymore.
