I have called Uniden a few times, and all they could give me is a list of on-line retailers. Not one actual store location, they couldn't (wouldn't) even let me go up there and see one.

I guess you have to just like the picture...

I kind of want to go inside a store and play with one, to see if I want to buy it, before I shell out $230!! I want to compare it to my 95. :p

Yeah, that figures. There used to be a couple of places to buy Uniden scanners, but have gone out of business in the Dallas area. I know Frye's Electronics used to sell a wider variety of them, but the past few times I have been in the stores, they have not been carrying any of the top models. I think Uniden should contract with a major retailer or something to sell the scanners. Seems like they could make more money that way, I don't know. I remember when I first got into this, I was spending alot of time at Radio Shack browsing through what they had. If I found one I like, I could buy it right then and there, and bought quite a few of them. I just get frustrated doing all of this searching online to find a good price, make sure I am getting a brand new scanner, and that the store will take it back if it doesn't work. Alot of these places say the equipment is new, and you might be getting a return from somebody else, or equipment has been tampered with. Not to mention, usually when you find a good deal, you are still going to pay more to get the thing shipped out in a decent time unless you want to wait a week for the standard shipping. Oh well, I don't buy scanners as much as I used to because of that.

I'm having the same problem here in the DFW area.

I have a Pro 95 but really want to play with a BC246T before I shell out for one.

I'm surprised that Uniden, being in DFW and all, doesn't have a retailer in the area.

You know, I offered to have a meet-up a few weeks ago, and only 1 person showed up. I'm open to trying again...

Same dilemma here

I read through the entire BC246T discussion, all 24+ pages of it last night to the dismay of my wife. Finally came to bed around 3 AM.
My next scanner is going to be the BC246T. Probably from EBAY but we'll see. No APCO25 stuff local to me as of yet. EDACS is the local county system here and if they go digital, even the PRO96 that I have won't do me any good. There are a few LTR and narrow band EDACS systems around that I want to listen to, and the small size of the 246 along with the Close Call feature have me sold on it. I looked at the Radio Shack sister unit but it doesn't do trunking.
Too bad the upper level Unidens aren't available in stores because I'd have one right here next to me now if that were so. Fry's has a small selection of lower level Uniden stuff and that's it. I didn't think they'd have much.

I know your blues regarding available retailers at the local level, this is not just a DFW issue it is everywhere. Scanners are kind of an exclusive hobby and most retailers are interested in the quick dollar. They do not want to risk having an item on the shelf that costs alot and does not move. Check the CB repair shops and any ham shops in your area, these are cross over hobbies if you will and sometimes these retailers carry scanners.

Also try truck stops as the first time I ever saw a BC785XLT was at a Pilot in AL..... I did a double take.. right above the rack of CB's was a rack od Unidens from the BC350A, to the 785. Blew my mind, and made me wish I had had the cash then to buy one .

Uniden Scanners in D/FW Can be found at the Following Locations:
Fry's Electronics-
Bonnie & Clyde CB and Stereo
Wal-Mart (Imagine That)
BearCom (Special Order)
Shipman Communications Denison (Special Order)
Radio Shack Un-Limited (Downtown Ft. Worth)
Uniden Corporation (Ammon Carter Bvld. Ft. Worth)

TEXAS TOWERS WILL NOT SELL UNIDEN SCANNERS-Damn!

Fry's have the BC780XLT, BC785D, BC895XLT and will eventually carry the BC898 & 246.

Select Wal-Mart Super Centers have the BC350 A & C Models and will possibly stock the BCT7 sometime in the next Year.

Best Buy is a Uniden Authorized Service Facility, and can SPECIAL ORDER Various UNIDEN Scanners.

Bonnie & Clyde on Harry Hines @ Denton Dr. Have Most Uniden Scanners, But, The Pricing is Un-Godly Ridiculas.

BearCom Communications, Shipman Communications & Com/Net Communications can Special Order Uniden Scanners. Down Fall is that by the time you get it in, you could have recieved 4 seperate orders from Radio World or Scanner Master.

ALL-COMM was the primier re-saler for Unider, AOR & Alinco Scanners, But, Some Amature Radio Operator who worked for them ripped them off so bad, that when they finally were able to close. they were so badly in debt, they promised never to get into the Radio Service and Re-sale market ever again under any name.

Oh, Fry's have the Alinco DJX Series Scanners.

I've only seen the BCT8s and 350As in the truckstops in the Houston area.

Which truckstops?

Fallbrook and the west beltway 8 (it isn't a really big truck stop, but it's still a truck stop) 45 North freeway Flying J. Those are the only 2 nearest me.

The Frys in Irving usually has several Uniden handheld models along with a few mobile/base units. Not too bad on prices, but if you are looking for a cheaper, conventional mode scanner, some, but not all Wal-Marts still stock them.
