Then maybe they should perform more extensive field testing on their products before release.

Why should the general public be beta testers for an inferior product? So the company doesn't have to pay for it?

Actually, Uniden did pretty extensive beta testing before the scanner was released.

Why should the general public be beta testers for an inferior product? So the company doesn't have to pay for it?

Because it is not possible for a small number of beta testers to test for every possible condition that will be encountered by every customer. Uniden is actually significantly better than most tech companies about taking bug reports and fixing them.

Name one tech product that was still on firmware v1.0.0 a year after release because 1.0.0 was perfect. Or one software product that has never needed to be updated.

Has anyone tried the sds100 on a dmr trunk system with RAS enabled? Previous unidens and current whistlers all struggle with these systems.

It works. RAS makes getting the LCNs on a new system harder to figure out (LCN Finder sonetimes gets the LCN wrong because RAS prevents normal error correction from working), but once you have the correct LCNs, monitoring works just fine on the x36 and SDS100 scanners.

Windows 3.1

The whole point is this scanner was rushed into production with a limited pool of beta testers such as yourself who refuse speak critically about anything relating to a possible fault. You have posted on almost every SDS100 thread on this forum in the last month and blamed the end-user or told them to wait for a fix. I'm still waiting for a fix for my BCD-396T not properly decoding digital voice on a Smartzone Omnilink system. A fix that was promised over 10 years ago.

Bottom line is, this isn't a beta product. It is a $700 top-of-the-line embarrassment for Uniden that still can't do what the previous model could do. Your end users aren't beta testers; these issues should have been addressed before the product shipped. The battery issue is a perfect example. Perhaps if the beta testers were someone with a clue and not some Uniden fanboy who refuse to be critical of a Uniden product, they wouldn't have shipped a scanner with an abysmal 6 hour battery life.

Windows 3.1

You're joking, right? Windows 3.1 was far buggier and crash-prone than any recent Microsoft OS.

I had a major system crash because of a DoubleSpace bug that corrupted a major programming project I was working on at the time, so this last one is especially memorable to me.

That's a bunch of crap:

$650, not 700.

The battery issue is a perfect example. Perhaps if the beta testers were someone with a clue and not some Uniden fanboy who refuse to be critical of a Uniden product, they wouldn't have shipped a scanner with an abysmal 6 hour battery life.

The battery issue, and Uniden's fix for it (a free higher-capacity battery for everyone who bought the scanner with a smaller battery) was disclosed and announced before the first order for SDS100 was accepted.

The battery issue further enforces my stance that the SDS100 was rushed into service. Your argument to the end users being beta testers is over the price of the scanner?

BTW, none of your links work.

Very true. I purchased my G4 in November of 2015. I asked for scan hold the first week I had it, and stayed in communication with the company representatives. It's over 2.5 years later and still no scan hold.

With Uniden, I, and many others asked for DMR, NXDN, and a scanner that would decode simulcast. We received DMR, NXDN, and a Simulcast scanner (despite the fact that the scanner doesn't do Simulcast as well as some had hoped).

I just appreciate the fact that Uniden hears our requests and tries VERY hard to bring them to fruition. Additionally, Uniden has to accomplish this stuff at a retail price point (which is why I think the SDS was a bit disappointing to some - but at least they gave it a shot, and it works for many people).

The battery issue will be rectified for early adopters we knew this going in. And all the links work fine here.

The battery issue, and Uniden's solution, was publicly disclosed before the first SDS100 order was taken. So people had an opportunity to make an informed decision whether they wanted to get the scanner sooner with a lower capacity battery (and get a free high-capacity battery later), or wait and buy after the high-capacity battery became available.

Your argument to the end users being beta testers is over the price of the scanner?

No, just pointing out a factual error in your previous post. The number of SDS100 bugs identified since release (<20) vs the number of bugs addressed by beta testers before release (>200) is a reasonably solid disproof of your statement about inadequate beta testing. As is the existence of the Windows 3.11 update regarding your claim about Windows 3.1.

Its also very hard to test RF equipment in the field with so many variables on each system and everyones unique locations.
I live near down town dallas and my RF problems at home are way different the RF problems at work. Thats just one example. I for one am happy to see Uniden taking our feed back and working with it. The more users complain the more we can weed out legit issues and get them fixed. A small set of users who experience problems may be user error in programming or how it set up or could just be some systems wanted a lower budget and cut out a tower or two. It happens. When users on the system cant use a portable in a building it will increase the likely hood of that same scanner user not being able to use his scanner in a similar building. Not the best example but you get the gist of it.
I want one but i need to sell a couple of my moto radios / hytera radios before i can justify spending 700 bucks. (yes ill add DMR to it).
IF anybody who is disappointment with their SDS is past their return window and wants to trade PM me.

SO Basically, if you don't like it don't buy it. If you can use it buy it, reporting bugs is one thing but who wants to read the same arguments over and over.
