Can someone explain why the gps kit it needed, I'm very new to this. Thanks.
Just to clarify, the GPS kit is not needed for scanning your systems of choice. Entering your current, and correct, location will allow you to utilize the main database to monitor your selected service types for the system’s in range of your location. The only function the GPS kit does is provide update’s to your location information as you travel. When at a set location, as long as you accurately entered a location and range, your scanner would monitor the exact same systems and channels whether your location was set manually or via GPS.

If you program a specific favorites list, as opposed to using the main database, you can monitor that list, and it’s systems, with location control either off, or in use.
So this is more so if I was to travel out of my normal listening area?
Correct. When traveling, a GPS will update your location as you move, enabling systems in range, and turning off those not in range.
