Will paid upgrades allow for monitoring Open Sky systems?

No. OpenSky is proprietary, and the manufacturer does not license the data needed to decode and trunk track OpenSky systems.

That aside, there is only one major system left and a handful of other OS systems. IOW, there is not even close to enough demand for this dying mode.

Hopefully there will be an upgrade for GE MARC-V
One two pair 800 system is still plugging away in north Idaho.
Yes that was sarcasm...

OpenSky "should" be gone in your area over the next few years. Supposedly it's going to be replaced with a P25 system.

However, there's talk of encryption. Southfield wants to dump their antiquated 420MHz analog system and join the new county system when the time comes. They were quoted prices for portables/mobiles and encryption software/key inserters. The county is footing the bill for some of Southfields upgrade costs.

Im sure the other agencies will want what Southfield said it wants.

So with OpenSky likely on it's deathbed it's looking like hobbyists will lose out again when the replacement system is up.
