Question, the plug where u plug in the charging cable. What is the plug on for above it, I'm new here and I'm told the data cable plugs into where the charging cable plugs in? Is this true? So I'm wondering what's the plug for above it? Thanks guys.

The upper port are connected to the DSP processor. The DSP covers a 2.88MHz frequency band so one feature could be an external box that samples that frequency range and can monitor several frequencies at the same time within that range.

It can be used to always keep track of a trunked systems control channel to do priority monitoring or in a conventional search it can monitor a frequency while checking if some other frequency in the spectrum gets active and immediately go to that frequency when the first one's conversation ends.

There's lots of options available for that kind of addon box and it's only Uniden's own imagination that sets the limits. A CPU and a DSP, and maybe a network port to support PC applications both from Uniden and self made, in a box could be a $300 device to make it attractive.
