I just boogered up the connector on my 396T. I'd like to replace it with the same Uniden-type style, and I've found some connectors on eBay that are similar to the original Uniden part. The only difference is the bottom (the SMA male end). The Uniden connector has a slight recess/bevel on the bottom outside edge. The ones on eBay are completely flat (descriptions say they'll fit Yaesu). Does anyone have any experience with these as far as whether or not they'll seat properly on a 396 or similar radio?

I know I can get one from Uniden, but I'd rather not pay $15+ for something I can get for $4-5 and still do the job.

Thanks.

Thanks, but that's the "alternate" style I'd prefer not to use. Your internal jack is more prone to damage if you drop your radio and it hits the connector. I'm looking for the original Uniden-type style, and have the above question about how well it works.

Also HRO has one made my Watson. Great quality as to be expected by Watson. Also it's all black so it looks much better.

Universal Radio has an black adapter similar to the Uniden one, for $10, made by Diamond. Link:
BNC Adapters

Order #0292
Item BNCJ-SMAP

Works great, is shorter, and looks better than the Uniden adapter!

I've used the generic ones before without a problem. I got this one on Ebay, but they also have silver ones. They even have a tacticool black one listed.

Uniden SMA to BNC connector

Bought one from ebay looks exactly the same, big knurled base, gold. Works fine but doesn't screw all the way down to the top of the radio, threads are exposed. The threaded area on the Uniden connector is about an 1/8" longer.

I noticed that after you mentioned it, but it only took me about a minute or so to dig through my various hardware and find a washer that works perfectly as a spacer. I'm sure that they are available at any hardware store.

The tacticool black one on Ebay comes with it's own spacer.

I bought one from Ebay. It does not seat all the way like the Uniden adapter. The SMA connector is not as deep so there is about a 1/16" gap. You may be able to solve this with a washer but I haven't tried that yet as the adapter just arrived.

I've read where others have used a rubber O ring and get good results.

I have several different third party BNC to SMA adapters. Not all of them screw completely down onto the radio, like others have pointed out. A small flat rubber washer between the radio and the bottom of the adapter will close the gap. I use washers from Diamond (or is it Comet?); some of their portable antennas are supplied with these washers, which is what I use.
