I'd like to pick up an external speaker for the 396T and was wondering which Uniden speaker would work best. The ESP-12 is 8 ohm, 12w; ESP-20 is 4 ohm, 20w.
Will either of these cause problems with the headphone jack?

Also, is it safe to assume that these are correctly ground-isolated? Or would a cheap radio shack ground isolator still be recommended?

I plan on picking up two, one for the truck & one for the house. I assume it's ok to pick up a DC wall plug for running it in the house?

I think you will find the 396 to be very poor at driving an external speaker. The earphone jack was designed for ear/headphones, and will not put out enough to drive an actual speaker. If you must use an external speaker due to noise or mobile environment, I would suggest an amplified speaker. I think you may be pleasantly surprised if you google "Workman 715", however, I can not give you an actual performance review since I don't have one ***yet***.

EDIT: BTW, Radio Shack has a new version of their old amplified speaker, but I feel it's a little pricey. For that, you can google "RS 21-130".
