I upgraded my 396T and had to do a full reset because I goofed something up. Since the upgrade I don't seem to have the audio clarity I did before with ver 2 firmware.

I haven't seen much difference while trying the full range of settings for the response time and refer gain under the digital AGC, has anyone else had better luck after the upgrade?

I have not upgraded to V3 yet. For now I decided to see other reports on V3 before I upgraded. V2 is OK but not fantastic. When I use the 396 outside or in my house it doesn't motorboat very much. But if I used it while mobile or at work, it motorboats a lot more. When mobile it motorboats even when I am within a few miles of the tower.

Are you having any issues with motorboating? That is my main issue with the 396 on SAFE-T. The audio is pretty good otherwise.

The MECA P25 system seems fine also with the V2 beta. I am taking the wait-and-see approach for V3.

I have both of my 996s upgraded. I found that, with MECA, it was best to set the P25 back to manual and then set the level. I was able to identify the ideal setting by watching the display as it decoded. On both of mine, this was 7. I turn the digital and analog AGC off. With this setup on MECA I am able to get acceptable quality audio in the mobile, and excellent quality audio at home. I heave learned that, in my setup and use, less is more on the mobile antenna for MECA.

For Safe-T sites, I leave the decode in Auto and the audio quality is excellent.

For lack of time, I have not upgraded the 396 yet. Based on infomration available in the Uniden thread I anticipate the same results with the 396 as those I have had with the 996s.

I only listened to SAFE-T for a few hours after the upgrade, I don't remember any motorboating. I never heard motorboating on MECA in any version.

True P25 9600 baud systems do not seem to motorboat, probably since the scanner doesn't have to determine whether it's a digital or analog TG. Good point about the AGC. If the radios being used in the system have AGC, you are better off turning AGC off on the scanner.

Version 3.00.00 had minor issues, 3.01.00 fixed those
