And I was going to send you one of my tripods Marshall, I never use them, even for my 1D MKII N :)

I appreciate it brother

Considering I work in the I.T. Dept of a School Photography company I think
I have all of my camera related needs handled :D:cool:

I just can't wait for Assaf's "Power Patrol" program.

That should be a lot of fun to use!

If the Home Patrol is automatically program, what would be the point of having programming software for it? I geuss if you want to control it by computer but I was under the impression there isn't too much to control, Maybe I'm wrong.

You use the Sentinel software to set up favorites and update both firmware and database as well.

To change the way things are set up in the DB. Nothing at all required for operations.

Just received my HomePatrol from UPS! Thanks to Jeff at The Ham Station! Now to get it all set up and to wait for the GPS to arrive!

Ordered

One of the local hams, also a scanner fan, told me he was ordering two. I asked him to order one more for me. He said he will order three in the morning. Hopefully here by Friday.

After testing it out bicycle and backpack/hiking mobile I will post my results/thoughts.

Is it taboo to ask what everyone is paying or to post what I am paying?

Just an FYI, make sure you have extra batteries if you plan on being out more than four hours as thats about the limit for them.

I totally agree! In this area of scanners there are enthusiasts and novices. Some noobs like me just want to listen without investing a lot of time learning to program. Talk about dumb down, I have an app for my Iphone called 5-0 radio that lets you monitor scanners from all over the world. I got more enjoyment with this than my BCD 396XT. As a matter of fact, I sold my 396XT on Ebay! When I heard about the Home Patrol - I ordered one. Uniden got me back as a customer. Hats off to Uniden for thinking outside the box and recognizing a market in people who don't have an FCC license! What I don't understand are the comments like "here we go with another dumb down scanner"! or its not true scanning unless you program! I mean c'mon people - what about to each his own! If you're an enthusiast, have fun spending hours programming - but don't hate just because we only spent 3 minutes setting up our Home Patrol!

Sad Mac

Under Quick Setup in the Quick Reference Guide, the first time you power up the scanner, you will get prompted to connect HomePatrol to your computer using the included USB cable to install the Sentinal software.
Is the software Mac compatible?

Bumping this question. They haven't posted any info for Mac users that I can find... I don't feature the idea of buying Windows to dual-boot it on my Mac, just to run one app! I already ordered my HP though, it was too tempting even without Mac support. If they don't come out with software for us I'll have to go to a friend's house and do it there. I like my friends, but that's a pain.

Your the target customer Uniden had in mind for this great product. As for the FCC license, that could come in handy even for you as some states, cities, counties etc don't allow use of a scanner in a vehicle or out in public without one. And you don't have to be too technically inclined to get a license. There are many online study and tests so you can learn and pass the test.
