I have been running UniTrunker with my 500 for about 6 days now. Ran it a couple of days on each site. There are several talkgroups that are not in the database. A few were used several times while many were used only once.

First column is the Talkgroup ID, the second is the area in which the ID falls (i.e. if it is surrounded by Richmond Police talkgroups then I would put Richmond PD) or a guess as to what it is, third is how many hits it has recieved.

I've seen 37120 many many times but was never able to really figure out who was using it. Going by the order, I would say its VCU-related as well....but the traffic I've heard on it seems to be surveillance-related (without getting too specific)...which held me back from submitting it as a VCU-related talkgroup.

On that fact, I can tell you that VCU's dorms and most of their maintaince are still on VHF..and the commons are still on UHF, so its not that either.

Edit:
32992 would make sense as RPD 1st "Tac" as well as 33264 being 4th "tac"...this is the same order as the 2nd pct. tac channel...

You can ignore that last one. 65536 is displayed to indicate the CW or Morse code ID. It's not a real talkgroup.

Ok... I was getting 65536 coming up on the Petersburg system as well so that explains that.

Just figured I would pass this on... A trick to help with UniTrunker on the PSR-500. Program a TSYS with just the main control channel (found out that it was different than the one listed in the Petersburg system on here, so you might have to make sure first) then program in a non exsistant TGRP and hook it up and let it scan that scan bank. It seems to make it hang a little bit if you have the normal talkgroups in there and it hits on one.

I use the Tune or the Analyze option.

28688 is generally on the Chesterfield CC, and definitely a college. I hear building #'s and a couple of 'halls' referred to. (but clearly enough to tell what their names were) 28704 is the next in sequence, so it only makes sense. There's also talk of apartment buildings.

It almost has to be VSU. Maybe we'll get some good clues after winter break.

I think that 27104 is a vehicle shop. Not sure if for school buses or for Chesterfield as a whole. Very little traffic, but some has indicated that users are going around and picking up various auto parts. This is a good one to listen to during breakfast.

36768-36832 appear to be "City 1" thru "City 5" for Richmond. They're not heavily used, and most of what I've found out about them has been from police officers keying up on them by mistake (wrong zone, sir). Dave Shoenberger has confirmed the ID for 36768, which is used along with 36784 more than the others for special events. City 1 (36768) is currently being used by leaf removal crews despite all the quiet DPW TG's they have to choose from.

36784 is not actually radio techs. It's mostly likely City-2, and is probably used in testing because it's present in all city radios. The same thing happened a couple of years ago when Capitol Police started installing radios using 37408. The traffic was always radio testing, and always at 2-3am. At the time, the TG was referred to as "Richmond Radio."

BTW, as I type this we get our confirmation on 28688 as VSU. They just referred to "Virginia Hall" and a google search indicates that it's a gathering center at VSU.

That would make sense as far as the City 1 talkgroups go...
anybody know how the zoning is set up for Richmond City radios?
I know Zone 4 is PD (at least in RPD radios)..would it be safe to say Zone 1 is City Common talkgroups?

I have a friend that is a Richmond officer, and this is waht I've been able to get based on what he has told me.

Zones 1-5 correspond to the precinct. Channels 1 through 6 are always the same (RPD 1-5 and Service) and 7 through 15 are the various tac channels assigned to that precinct (Admin, tac, etc.). Channel 16 is always the pursuit channel. So, normally first precinct officers would have their radios on zone 1, second precinct on zone 2, etc. Zone five is for the non-existent fifth precinct, but the talkgroups exist. Then depending on the officer's rank, the remaining zones are set up differently. Some have Fire and EMS channels, some have Henrico and Chesterfield PD, and so on. I assume that the various mututal aid talkgroups and NPSPAC channels are mixed in at about 6, 7, or 8.

Yep, channels 7, 8 & 9 are consistently Admin, Bike and SEU for the four precincts that we can actually hear. (I think that the TG ID's are already in the database).

Does your friend have any scuttlebut on a 5th precinct? I heard at one time that they were eyeing the Dove Street Armory for it.

From what I've heard I don't think that a 5th precinct is in the near future. It's been in there as long as Richmond has been on this system. I think it was put in there as a "just in case" kind of thing.

*bump*

Hearing encrypted traffic on 33744 and 33760 this evening.

Edit: 33744 seems to be more active, and its half-encrypted half in the clear. Sounds like surv communications to me.
