I recently purchased a Unimetrics digi scan-16 at a second hand store and was wondering if anyone could give me any insight as to how it operates. I am fairly new to this. I have a radio shack triple trunking scanner that I use and an old RCA crystal 3- band. The part on the Unimetrics that I am unsure about is the 16 switches on the back. There are 2 sets of 8, one set is marked UHF (up is on and down is off) and the other is VHF on/off. There are also two pl259 jacks on the back with an on/off switch between them. I am assuming that there are no crystals in this since it is called a "digi" scan. Any help on setting frequencies would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ok-

I looked at the scanner again today and there are crystals inside. The switches on the back must turn individual crystals on or off. I still don't know what the on/off switch between the two antenna jacks does....

bocefus, The 2 sets of 8 swithces would operate for VHF and UHF. This is a Crystal controled scanner. should take a 10.7 scanner crystal. If you put the switches in the "Up" position this would be for 450-470Mhz and if you put them in the "Down postion" this would be for VHF 150-174Mhz.The two PL-259 Connections on the back of the scanner would be for a connection to a Outside antenna either at home or in a car.I would recoemend that you look at the web site RadioPics.com and click on the link for "Other scanners" and then look for The Unimetrics digi scan. When I checked they had 3 of them on there web site with a picture of the switches on the back. You also might do a search on the internet by typing in Unimetrics digi scan 16 police scanner owners manual and then download it and send it to your computer printer. The owners manual should help you out and answer your questions. If anyone else can help bocefus out with any other backgound info on this radio would be appreceited.Very Best Requards, Tim DeLong W9NES GMRS KAF3207 *My door is always open helping others" *Monitoring all of Metro Indianapolis/Marion County and all of Central Indiana*

Thanks W9NES!
I looked at the Radiopics website that you recommended. The Digiscan 4+4 looked similar to mine except less switches. Thanks for the other info you gave me, I think I should be able to get it up and running now!

bocefus,
I used to sell them way back in the day when they came out. I used to have all the manuals in storage.
I do not know if they survived the move to Tucson. I can not guarantee anything , BUT let look through a file cabinet..I working on an AT&T project so time is real tight....I will try to sneak a peak Monday night..I really enjoyed those Unimeterics...I sold a LOT to police officers / firefighters way back then..The 16 was a temperamental radio at times..I will post Monday if I can find anything to assist you. Boy, this radio brings back memories...used to stock all the crystals..If I remember right I used to buy in bulk from Bomar(?)...Well, I'll look...

jpsan-
Thanks for your post! I have spent some time time looking online and I cannot find any manuals or much other info on this scanner. The first thing that comes up on a google search for unimetrics digiscan-16 is this thread! I did find something about someone who wanted to sell a digital copy of a manual for $20 (I only paid $5.95 for the scanner at a second hand store (I have a feeling I got a pretty good deal)) but that was about it, and who knows if the manual is really legit. Thanks again for your help!

bocefus,

Sorry for the delay in getting back. Duty called...I searched 2 file cabinets and a couple of boxes and am very sorry to say no joy. If I DO come across anything I will get it to you. I am a pack rat in keeping stuff and they will surface..
