I’m lost. I purchased some boafengs that are tri hand and got my GMRS license thinking these would help me listen to everything going on in union county specifically Mountainside Nj and surrounding towns. Seems what I purchased isn’t helping one bit. Can someone point me in the right direction.

Almost all of the agencies in Union County use the NJICS P25 trunked radio system. You will need a scanner capable of receiving TDMA/Phase II, which is pretty much limited to the Uniden SDS-100/200 or the Unication G4/G5 in order to handle LSM.

You CAN monitor some of the conventional analog stuff in Union County with your Baofangs 🤮 such as EMS paging, Fire Mutual Aid, etc. but even agencies not on NJICS like Clark are using P25 which your Baofangs are incapable of.

Only entries in the RRDB tagged as mode "FM" or "FMN" can be monitored with a Baofeng. For everything else public safety related you'll need a Phase-II/TDMA scanner as mentioned previously to monitor the system below

lol guess that means I get to buy a new toy. Question, does that also go for a Motorola HT1250? Happen to have a spare one of those. I’m guessing that’s also not going to work cause it can communicate on some of the same setup frequencies that my baofengs are on.

HT1250 is not trunking capable or P25 capable.
