The Motorola folks are making big money on the horrors of less coverage with narrowband. Using a DECENT Motorola or good quality radio. The coverage is the same. The only time its worse when the "sun noise static " is loud and the audio is readable but in the sun noise instead of on top of it. sun noise is that electrical type noise on dry low humidity days. I know of a state agency that has not lost any coverage due to narrow-banding but they have used it as an opportunity to make what they have better 1 5/8 cable vs 7/8 and higher sites where possible. However the narrower emission was not the motivating force.

What I read about it was that they are upgrading the system with more transmitters, and depending on which of the reporters' statements is correct, either adding them to existing towers and/or adding some new towers. Nothing about switching to all new radios. Seems to be just to extend coverage with narrow band on same frequencies.

going to be on existing cell phone towers thats what they are saying so far
but the main tower has moved now its on the same tower as the sc forestry commission the old tower had to be moved because of building a new plant
