okay, I can't get unitrunker to use a second scanner (396t) to listen to. I have a tap on my pro96 and get a decode rate of usually 99 to 100 percent and can see traffic fine. I read the readme file and did a search on here and found a recent suggestion, but it didn't work for me. I can get the scanner to display "remote mode keypad lock."

I have it set for

listen voice: yes
control: no
mode: auto
scan for listen: ignore
threshold: 50; ignore
lockout: no
park mode: auto
use: scan
frequency: 860.9375
Memory 0

Voice Radio: BCD396t
On port: com 1
Baud rate: 115200
Data bits: 8
Stop bits: 1
parity: none

does it matter what the "frequency" is set to for park mode? I dont even know what that is. What should control be set for? I can use my 396t through the Uniden control software fine, so I dunno what the prob is.

Any help would be great. Thanks unitrunker guy for your help in advance. Very nice software.

Looks good.

Only if you want the radio to park on a specific frequency in between calls. Your settings above send the radio to Scan in between calls so the Frequency setting is ignored. As an experiment, try changing that to use "frequency".

There were some problems with controlling the '396 and '996 (like annoying key-beeps). There is some newer code to fix this that will be released soon.

hint

I've found it helps to make sure the BC396 is sitting (holding) on a conventional channel before starting Unitrunker.

Look for the UT frequency to go green - if something goes green (vs white) but you don't get the 396 response, that indicates the issue is the interface to the radio. If nothing goes green, there's no command to send.

It could help to make sure the HOLD frequency at startup is in the same mode as the trunked system you will be tracking, too. If the 396 shares any qualities with its predecessor - the BC-296D - then if you start off on an AM channel, you will be monitoring trunked frequencies in AM mode.

okay excellent. i got it working. flash: your setting it to hold on conventional freq worked. unitrunker: i went ahead and set it for "mute." i see what you mean about the annoying key beeps. if people want an immediate fix, then all they have to do is go into settings and change the key beep to "none." The key beep went away.

Thanks for your help guys.

The 396T VFO control command includes a mode field (AM/FM/NFM/WFM/Auto[use bandplan default]), so this is a non-issue.

It's only a non-issue if the correctly formatted command is sent to the scanner. Doesn't the 296's VFO control include mode information?

Hi Dave;

The '296 uses the old 2 letter command set (the RF and RM commands). Part of the bug with the '396 and '996 is the program sends an erroneous 2 letter command that isn't applicable to those models. That's been fixed ... and the new code needs to be released.
