Forgot to mention

I'm using this on a EDACS 9600 system in Northern Nevada.

I also have not as yet figured out the Field Headers?

LCN - Obvious
Frequency - Obvious
PR - What is this representing and what different data may I see ?
Destination Party - Alpha Tag for Talkgroup
ID - Talkgroup in Hex or Decimal
T - What is this representing and what different data may I see?
ID - I assume the Radio ID ?
Calling Party - Haven't seen any data displayed, what's it used for ?
C - What is this representing and what different data may I see ?

Sorry to trouble you for my being dense.

Priority - this is a number you assigned to each talkgroup or radio id.

T - What is this representing and what different data may I see?

G for group call, I for individual (radio to radio).

ID - I assume the Radio ID ?

yes.

Calling Party - Haven't seen any data displayed, what's it used for ?

This displays the alpha tag for the radio id.

C - What is this representing and what different data may I see ?

That"s "CT" for call type. Right now it displays a number indicating the type of call - the meaning depends upon the type of system. A "3" - for example - indicates a patched call.

Some other call types I've picked up on an EDACS 9600 system:

0 - Analog Talkgroup
2 - Provoice Talkgroup
4 - Analog ICall
5 - Provoice ICall

I never actually see a 3 come up on patched calls nor do I see anything in the patches view. My BC785 identifies the patches correctly so I guess it's something with unitrunker and edacs.

Another weird thing I've noticed on my local EDACS96 system in unitrunker and T4win is a call that has nothing under T or CT in unitrunker but has a 0 in the radio ID field. T4win used to say the call type was "Phone". All of my scanners completly ignore the call. My signal quality is from between 96 and 99. Anyone have any idea what this is?

BTW, GREAT program Rick, it's everything I've been looking forward to for the 2 months I was constantly checking the forum :)

That was a Motorola example. EDACS and P25 are different.

It may very well be a phone interconnect.

Where can I get a listing of all the "CT" numbers for the program? In my case it's for Motorola systems. I didn't see these in the help file.

I'll eventually replace these codes with a short text label.

Here's what T4Win uses ...

0 - group
1 - multi
2 - emergency
3 - patch
4 - emergency patch
5 - emergency multi
7 - multselect
+8 - coded

Thanks, are there any special notations for digital and/or encrypted TG's?

I was wondering if you could describe what each means. I know what patch is but I'm confused on the others. Does this apply to p25 and edacs or just edacs?Boo!-Poltergeisty :-0

Hello,

I've just begun playing with UniTrunker and have a few comments/questions that I haven't really seen.

First, I'm using a PRO-2006 with a discriminator tap to my computer to watch the TG/RID activity. I have no way to output to another radio :(

I am using my PRO-96 to monitor the audio on the TG's to correlate the RID and the voice activity.

Question 1:
How do I see the same information, including the last TG a specific RID talked on, as seen on the "Subscriber" screen? I've displayed the RID file and it doesn't show this information :( Actually, I'd like to see it in a file together, just like on the screen, is it possible?

Question 2:
Normally, I see a separtion of 16 numbers between the TG's. Sometimes, I see a TG followed by a TG that is only separated by 7 numbers, one time I saw 8, and a small section of this system has the TG's separated by 10. Can anyone advise why? Is it possible to hear these TG's too? This is on an 400mhz Air Force system.

Question 3:
Since I can see what TG is used last by the RID's, I went back to the "Subscriber" screen, but I don't have any RID using the odd numbered TG's as described above. Thoughts?

As an observation, I've noticed that the current RID that is talking, is not always updated in the top panel. Sometimes, it will only display the RID of the initiator of the conversation.

Thanks for a great program. This is my new best toy. I thought there would be no life after PRO96COMM :)

It's there ... the talkgroup is after the "first" / "last" timestamps - but just before the Notes section. The value stored there might not be what you expect. After subtracting a very large number (2 raised to the power of 30) - you will get the expected TG number (don't ask why - it's being fixed).

In some curcumstances, the program does not handle the Motorola status bits correctly. The extra bits are supposed to be removed - and displayed in the "CT" column instead but sometimes they leak through. See the earlier discussion on status bits (or check the Wiki).

Since I can see what TG is used last by the RID's, I went back to the "Subscriber" screen, but I don't have any RID using the odd numbered TG's as described above. Thoughts?

Good question - the reason is as described above.

As an observation, I've noticed that the current RID that is talking, is not always updated in the top panel. Sometimes, it will only display the RID of the initiator of the conversation.

This can be a result of either (1) less that 100% decoding (the extra ID info is lost due to noise) or (2) the system you are monitoring is configured for "message trunking" instead of "transmission trunking". If you sometimes see a group call with no radio id, it is probably a result of a poor decode rate (and if you are seeing this with 100% decoding - it's a bug - in which case please report back and we'll figure out the cause)

See http://www.thebriarpatch.org/trunking/message.html for details.

Rick,

Thanks for the explanation. You are quite right, the answer is right there in the file to question 1. I just subtracted 1073741824 from the last number, et voila, there's the missing TG :)

I thought question 2 might be related to the earlier discussion on the bits, but I'm not sure it it's a leak or not. Here are all of the TG's that I've recorded over the past two days:

32 1296 1312 1648 1664 1680 1952 1968 1984 2000 2112 2128 2272
2288 2304 2432 3600 3616 3648 3712 3856 4096 4112 4128 4144 4160
4352 4398 4408 4418 4428 4465 4466 4832 4839 4848 4992 4999 5008
5152 5159 5168 5312 5319 5328 5632 5639 5648 5888 5895 5904 5911
5920 5927 5936 6144 6160 6176 7488 7504 12992 13328 13344 13360
13392 13456 13472 13488 13504 13520 13536 13552 13568 13584 13824
16000 16008

As you look at the above decoded TG's you also notice an anomaly with TG's 4398, 4408, 4418, and 4428. The next TG is 4465 which is one less than TG 4466, not one more. The last TG could be the leak you are mentioning as TG 16000 is an encrypted TG.

As far as the system, I receive 100% of the signal. It appears it will probably be message trunking, as I understand the link. I saw this with a Federal prison 400mhz system too in my area.

Thanks again for your help. I've gone back and listened to the different trunk systems in my area and reconfirmed a lot of what I had to do manually. Sure wish I had this earlier, but then it might not have been as fun :)

Great job on the program!

Great program Rick but I just have to ask this question. Where are all the extra LCN's or Channels coming from in UniTrunker? Monitoring the Gwinnett County Ga. 800Mhz 3600Baud system 2D31. I am now up to 36 LCN's and only 18 of those have ever been confirmed by Trunker 3.8.3, T4Win or the Mtrunker32 programs. Here is the Moto2d31.hz file.

I forgot to mention that I am quite close to the system and have a 98 to 100% quality decode rate. Is it noise, bandplan ??

Rick,

Ok, I had to restart the computer, and I began looking through the different screens and noticed that I had patches for 4839, 4999, 4159, 5319, 5639, 5895, 5911, and 5927. Some of these were in the earlier TG's that I sent.

So, now the question, how does that relate to the numbers, are these the possible extra numbers being seen by others? Or what does the patch TG mean to me as a listener?

Thanks again,

John

I hate to ask this but can't think of an easier way.

First, delete the extra channels. An easy way to delete the channels is to type "F" (for Find), use the up/down arrows to highlight an unwanted channel, and type "C" (for Channel) to view the channel details. There should be a delete option. Repeat for each of the unwanted channels.

Second, while running UniTrunker, open up a command window and run Packets (it is included in the installation). Run the program once with no options just to verify that your computer allows both programs to pull data from the same sound input. If you don't see any meaningful data, try pressing "I" to tell the packets program to invert the input signal. After verifying this ... you will need to run the packet utility in such a way that it dumps it's output to a file. Easy way is from the command line, something like this ...

C:\> packets > channel-dump.log

The packets program will continue running until you press a key (while the command window is active).

Third, leave both programs running.

Fourth, as soon as you see another unwanted channel appear - go to the command window and press a key (like the space bar) to stop the packets logging utility. You can also shut-down UniTrunker so that it saves the channel data.

If you can get this far, please send the HZ file and packets log file to me via email. From this I should be able to identify what activity is causing these unwanted channels to appear.

For a type II motorola system, all talkgroups should be evenly divisible by 16. Any talkgroup saved that is not evenly divisible indicates a bug in the program.

From the listener's perspective (and the radios out in the field) - you are monitoring talkgroup "A" that happens to be patched to talkgroup "B" - then you want to hear both "A" and "B" plus X where X is the appropriate set of status bits (usually 3 or 7). You do not want to plain talkgroup "B".

In the case where you want to hear "A" and talkgroup "B" is also patched to "A" - then you want to hear "A" and can ignore the status bits (you'll get both ID's - "A" and "A" plus X status bits). Again, you do not want to plain talkgroup "B".

There are probably a few places in the code that omit peeling off the status bits from the ID so you will see both the talkgroup in both plain and patched forms.
