Hi, i have been using unitrunker quite happily with a discriminator tap on an old radio shack base, getting 95%+ decode. It has been working so well, that i want to buy a second radio for the sole purpose of being computer controlled by the program.

This is where im not sure, as unitrunker seems to support quite a few radios, and i am lost as to which one to get.

The trunking system that it would be monitoring is a motorola p25, just the regular audio, not the digital portion, (bell fleetnet zone 2 in ontario) between 140-160 mhz.

Does anyone have a good radio recomendation for this purpose, not too expensive hopefully.

Also important to note, my laptop that i have been using this on, does not have a 9pin serial port, and is running windows vista, if unavoidable i could get a usb to serial converter, but straight usb is much preffered.

Thanks in advance.

Do you monitor any APCO P25 systems or Motorola Type II systems that use APCO P25 digital voice?

The digital voice capable radios cost more. If you don't need P25 voice, get a computer controlled analog radio for about half the cost (eg. $200 vs. $450 or more).

When looking for a radio - make sure it accepts computer control. Some radios have a computer interface for uploading scan lists, but do not allow the computer to control the radio's behavior.

Many of the radios supported are actually older models so you could consider purchasing a used radio from eBay or elsewhere.

Thanks for the reply,

While the system does use alot of p25 digital audio, I cannot at this time afford a p25 digital radio, so i am just looking for and analoge portable that my laptop can remote control. I shall have a look at ebay, and see what they have there.

Is there a list of radio models that unitrunker supports? Such a list would be quite helpfull.

thanks..

Run the Tuner app that accompanies Unitrunker.

Click the combo box for the radio model select. The list of choices that appears there (it is quite long) is the list radios recognized by Unitrunker.

Monty's right. I haven't been able to get this model to work. The command structure is very similar to other Unidens so I'm a bit baffled as to why.

Any brave BC246T owners care to volunteer for some testing?
