The HP2 cable that comes with the Uniden Universal GPS (BC-SGPS) appears to be identical to the serial cable that came with older XT series scanners.

Has anyone verified that they are in fact the same? I don't know if they are wired the same.

Really easy to change if it's not.

Does the HP2 supply voltage? I had one years ago, and I think it did. Just don't mix up those wires/pins. The other two can be reversed without causing damage.

No, the radio does not supply voltage. If they are reversed a Null Modem adapter should handle it. I will try and sort it out with an ohm meter this weekend but if someone already figured it out I would not have to reinvent that wheel, this week is pretty messed up for me...

Good luck, I figured it out for the SDS100, it's an old post on how to make your own GPS. Not really relevant with the HP2, different kind of plug.

The Uniden cable with the Hirose connector on one end and the DB9 on the other is standard, and works on all models I've tried with the Hirose connector on the scanner.

Understood, but it is the same as the cable supplied with the BC-SGPS Kit? I assume it is but am not entirely sure.

It would have to be, or it would break compatibility.

One would think but never underestimate the ability of an engineer to change things within the same package (think USB-1 cables!)

Regardless, I have answered my own question by digging out the ohmmeter and toned out the cable layouts and they are the same. This provides flexibility with cable collections like many of us have.

In case anyone is interested here is the pin out:
