Was doing a frequency search in the 460mhz area and came across 460.725 131.8 PL as a police department. Unit was dispatched to a 911 hangup and requested an additional unit. Nothing is showing up in the FCC database for New England or New York with it licensed as PD.

460.7250 is generally Business band, with some minor exceptions when frequencies are scarce.

Maybe one of the Radio shops playing around ?

the other thought is how sure are you with 131.8, I've seen plenty of DPL in ME/NH on that channel, and knowing how some scanners false and show 131.8 or 136.5 on a DPL - it could one a DPL - just a WAG

100% sure on the PL. I held the scanner on the channel with tone search on and it showed 131.8 and i saved it and still heard the convo after saving the PL

Double check your PL; you're probably hearing Sanford PD, who is patched to 460.725 but with a 103.5 tone.
Had this freq recording for the past two days. I am getting 460.725 with a PL 103.5 here in Gray, ME. Listened to a bit and heard references to York street and High Street both of which are in Sanford according to Google maps. Thanks for the confirmation of this being Sanford PD, KB1VLA. Not sure what ME343 heard as he is in Farmington. Be curious to find out who he was hearing up there.

He confirmed the 131.8 PL however. With that said, Sanford PD did go to a 9-1-1 hangup call that morning of his post, around 9:17 am. Perhaps there was a technical issue and the wrong PL was being transmitter, or multiple ones. We've had several mornings of UHF enhancement , which would explain why he heard it in Farmington.

This will require more monitoring around, but if I were to guess, it is Sanford. Eric, do you still have the recording? Are you able to ID the street name of the call? If it was Lebanon St, that would be Sanford.

Probably hearing Sanford PD and got a mix up of PL tone or false decode somehow. I summer in Lakes region area in NH and can hear them no problem regularly and the simulcast 155.310. Their transmitter(s) cover like crazy.

I live 13 miles from the Peaked Mt tower in Dixmont. I live 126 miles from Gilford NH. I can pick up Gilford NH PD sometimes better than the Penobscot County SO.

I can get into the Mt Washington 440 Ham repeater clear as a bell from my location. Again, 13 miles away on Peaked Mt in Dixmont is the GMRS repeater, and nevermind trying to get into it, most days, I cant even hear it.

In Maine, with the way the terrain is, sometimes you can be in a spot that picks up signals from distances that you would not think to hear them. When it comes to the average terrain around me, I live in a hole. It is a curse, but in some ways, it makes radio pretty interesting.
