17975 kHz, AM, 1515 UTC, March 29, 2014, transmission of presidential speeches. Up to S8 here locally, but most often about S5. Still on at this time (1423 UTC).

Unknown sourced transmission, might be a pirate or might not. It is not a listed on any schedules, so probably not a regular BC station. If it is a pirate it is an unusual one.

Started prior to 1515 UTC, that was when I first noticed it. Looks like a 20 or 21 minute loop of JFK’s inaugural speech and a couple of FDR’s Fireside chats. Loop just repeats over and over, has gone through 3+ cycles so far with no variations or IDs.

This same transmission was reported in Aug, 2013 on 9225 kHz, and about 12 days ago (March 17, 2014) on 17795 kHz.

I have WRMI on 17790 kHz with preaching, but nothing on 17795 kHz. However, the speeches I was talking about are on 17975 kHz, not 17795 kHz. It was reported in the past on 17795 kHz, but not today.

Try 17975 kHz. And this station is being reported on the east coast, although weak there. Strongest in the central US, fair here on the west coast.

Not very good audio quality and it certainly repeats as described.

I hear it here in Painesville (20ish mi E of Cleveland), Ohio. S7/S9, clean audio.

I was in the middle of trying to work a EU station on 15m when that solar event happened. Thought the front end on my 706 crapped out on me. Had to hook up the TS-130S to make sure.

Looks like whatever this is may still be active. I was just sent a recording snippet of a religious program on 17795 that was very well received in northern California this morning.

The religious programming is probably WRMI, a regular broadcaster, and not related to the original signal reported here.

Hard to believe some kid would get a kick out of sending out programming like that. My guess is some sort of transmitter testing.
