Hello. I have a Uniden BC246T. Canton, Stark Co., Ohio. I programmed the frequencies and LCNs and different talk groups listed for American Electric Power in Canton, but haven't heard anything yet. Just looking for tips, thanks!

Couple of things you can do. Double check and make sure the bank is in Edacs mode.

Leave the scanner in "open" mode so any talk-group can come across.

If still nothing, try manually going to a control channel to see if you can at least hear data or any transmission.

Thanks for you response!

I tuned into the primary control channel and did hear data transmission but no voice. I wonder if I'm too far from thier tower?

Should that not say "ID Search" since it is a 246, but good points Nefire. Brian, here is a good reference and easier to read from Marks scanners. I got this link from our wiki.
Be sure to read the editing system options etc. Also, the system your trying to listen to might not that busy.

Easier to Read BC246T Manual

Edit: You might also want to become a Premium Subscriber, you can use various programs that work with your 246 to download from the Radioreference database.
But I do encourage you to become familar with programming your scanner by hand as well.

Good luck
Ron

Another point to consider is that energy companies do a lot of talking on I-Call or Private Call in normal times, and open dispatching sometimes is few and far between. In other words, unless you programmed your 246 to listen to I-Calls, you may not hear much. I don't know if that is the case where you are, but it is a consideration.
