We will be coming next weekend, flying into Kansas City Int. Airport and looks like the best route is up I-29. Interested in monitoring PD, FD and EMS.
Looks like we will going through Clay, Clinton and staying in Buchanan County.
Looks like Clay is on MARRS? Excelsior site best?
Looks like most stuff in Clinton on VHF?
Looks like everyone in Buchanan is using the Buchanan Co MO Public Safety P25 System?

Did I miss anything or anyone have any suggestions? thanks.

I was just up in St Joe a week ago (a funeral, unfortunately) and the P25 system works well. Some report issues with the simo sites , but I had no problems.

Back in the late 80's I parked up on Wyeth Hill overlook one saturday when they happend to be busy and found most of the frequencies. Back then they were almost all on 163 MHz.

Most of the Clay County agencies use the MARRS KCMO site. You can hear Excelsior PD (when they're not using encryption) and FD on both the Excelsior and KCMO sites. Clinton County is still on conventional VHF, but they also rebroadcast to MOSWIN TG 26003. As wbloss stated, the Buchanan County P25 system works well and there's not much encryption use. Range is a little iffy if you try to monitor from the North side of KC, but I get them on my Unication devices. Hope that helps.

I lived in SJ in the Mid 80's and they WERE in the 163s.
When the first SJ Trunked system was built Rosecrans was supposed t be involved, but I never heard them.
I forgot to program the 14# MHz freqs last week - darn!

Don't forget the Railroads, BNSF and UP both have lines in St. Joseph. Should be good UP since there is a yard there. Safe travels.

Nothing new as I mostly listened to Buchanan Co and they were quite busy at times for a small county.
