Hi,

Sorry if this has already been posted, did a search and didn't find anything.

For those familiar with downtown Jersey City, the security outfit (no longer Spartan, I think - there's been a fair amount of turnover of security companies over the years.

They've installed a repeater, with the output on 468.9625, input tone is 103.5. Input is -10MHz (458.9625), evidently a public safety frequency(!). The machine is very subtle - it has a very short dwell time. There is a tone on the output, also of 103.5Hz. They still have no license that I am able to find in the ULS.

They have become noticeably more active since the repeater was installed, 24 hours a day.

I've heard fragments of a Morse callsign on the output, but haven't been able to get the whole thing yet - always catches me off guard. There are two other condo units using the output frequency in NYC, close enough to be the likely owner of the ID.

whew - not my most coherent post, but I suppose you get the idea.

This information is about the security frequencies used by the neighborhood security company used in the Newport neighborhood in downtown Jersey City.

That's an odd repeater pair. Normally the pair would be 468.9625 / 463.9625, I think. I go in & out of the hobby, but that's the way it used to be.

It IS strange, not only because the split is atypical, but because the input and output frequencies are in different groupings (one is IG business/commercial, the other is public safety, licensed by a few police departments and townships in NJ but not close enough geographically to be a problem apparently).

I've also noticed that a few of the radios are still programmed as simplex, or they are using a personality/configuration that is still simplex, making for some heterodyne during busy periods.

There's not doubt - the company they're using for communications is making up the rules as it goes along.

Reception on 468.9625 is definitely much stronger now. I used to get a lot of static and fade outs, now everything comes in loud and clear. I noticed a SOS Security van in the Newport area on my way home today. I guess they replaced Spartan.
