i canot update for uniden 396xt

when update see : programming error
please check the following things.

*connect your scanners to your pc using the standed pc interface cable

why?

Did you remove the batteries, press and hold the 6 and L/O button while plugging in the power adapter?
Did you select the correct COM port from the pulldown? Are you using the Uniden USB-1 or a USB/Serial adapter with the supplied cable, or just a serial port? Did you unzip the update file?

Some have reported that they had to use the previous version of the BC_UP program to upgrade.

Make sure that the com port is correct (try 1 then 2 then 3 then 4and so on) to see if you can connect and then once you figure out the correct com port make sure the speed setting matches the radio by pressing menu then turn the dial to settings press the volume knob and turn the dial to "set serial port" and press the volume knob again and check to see if it matches the settings in the firmware update tool. If it still fails try setting both the update screen and the scanner to a lower speed to see if you can get it to work until it works for you.
