I know that on the Radioshack website they have the updated firmware for other scanners like the Pro-96/2096, however I didn't see even a "Tech Support" section on the website for the 106, is it just because it's so new? I know the PSR-500 has been out for a while and has had several firmware updates, so I just want to make sure that the 106 is up to date. Thanks!

Since it is "BRAND NEW" we would have to conclude it is as up to date as it can be. Since I got mine, I have sort of compared feature for feature on the PSR-500 with the latest firmware (1.6) and they seem to be identical at this point. I don't have any nearby LTR systems to compare performance with, which is one of the enhancements in v1.6, but otherwise, I can find no difference. I suppose someone has already hacked the firmware code in a Pro-106 and could probably tell you the date on it which would give a good idea of what version of PSR-500 firmware it compares with.....

Hold down the "3" button and then turn it on. Mine had the F1.6 update, which was purchased yesterday.

All the Pro-106's should be F1.6 right now
I dont believe there is any other firmware available to the public.

uP App Ver: RF1.6
DSP AppVer: RF1.3
DSP VocVer: RF1.0

Picked mine up last night.

I pretty much knew that it was the latest firmware, but I wasn't sure if there was anywhere special that would host the updated firmware when (if) they release updates.

I have heard that the radios are identical internally and take the same firmware, but I have not tested this.

(as the poster above me correctly said) They WONT take the exact same firmware... that being said the firmware look exactly the same (when editing) just labelled differently... V1.6 vs RF1.6

I personally believe its the same firmware just labelled differently for each scanner... but you CANT use the same firmware on either scanner.

When GRE comes out with an update *I believe* RS will just have to re-name it for the RS scanners and release it. But we will need to see 1.7 and see.

GRE if current should be:

uP App1 Ver: UF1.6
DSP App Ver: UF1.3
DSP Voc Ver: F1.0

RS is:

uP App Ver: RF1.6
DSP AppVer: RF1.3
DSP VocVer: RF1.0

Note some of the spacing difference between GRE and RS. And of course U for upgrade.

Note regarding the two firmwares.
GRE's can clone with each other
RS's can clone with each other
GRE's and RS's can not clone

Clarification: GRE and RS models can clone configurations between them. The clone protocol and configuration data are identical. Any GRE firmware updates will not be compatible with the RS models and vice versa.

Don Starr, who is really "in the know" has stated repeatedly that the firmware is not compatible between the GRE and the RS radios.

So I wouldn't even dream of trying it since I would not risk making a brick out of my expensive scanner.

My First 106 was purchased 12/1/08 but it went back for another on 2/1/09 after the first failed to power up one morning.

up App: 1.6
DSP App: 1.3
DSP Voc: 1.0

I have no issues with LTR systems here, both PC and Manual programing. I do hear some slight "Motor boating" on a few P25 frequencies, but this is more common in repeaters that are very close by. And only on repeaters, NOT simplex.

If GRE distributes a new firmware version, Will it support the 106?

If DonS. is saying they aint the same, that's good enough for me. Considering he is a Software writer, he Would defiantly know.

Can,t do firmware update pro 106

I was able to update uP App ver:1.8, however the uP BootVer will not update. As sooon as I try to run the update the 106 reboots. I'm stuck on ver 1.2 and Palm Beach has rebanded. Radio Shack is worthless.

My Firmware shows: uP App Ver: RU2.0, DSP AppVer:RF1.4, DSP VocVer RF1.0
not sure if that is latest or not. Have had radio about 6 or 7 years.
