Updating a BC796D Question

Since I am way behind times, I decided to finally update my BC796D to the latestt update bc796d_v3_29.scn. Well, I keep getting the error "programming error, please check the following things. *connect your scanner to your pc using the standard pc interface cable. *keep your scanner connected to external power on the scann." I have a serial cable running from the scanner to the serial port on my scanner. I know it works because I just ran arc250 to make sure. Of course I had the scanner plugged in all the time and had the scanner running. I checked and it is connected to comport 1 which is what I selected when I ran the update. I also tried comports 2 & 3 with no luck. Any help would be appreciated because I also want to update my BCD996T as soon as the latest problem is fixed with it. Thanks in advance.--Gary

Are you turning the scanner off, then turning it on with the special key sequence (as described in the on-screen instructions)?

Duh idiot here, as usual didn't follow directions, update is running now. Actually read the directions, just did them in the wrong order. Update is done scanner working fine--I happy scanner now.--Gary
