I am having no luck updating he firmware on my scanner. I did register the radio. I have been trying to update to 2.0.0.3 so I can update to 3.01. I downloaded 2.0 and unzipped the file. When I go to open it a window opens that says 2.0.0.3 and it just sits their and nothing happens. Any ideas whats happening. I'm stumped

You're not following instructions.

First...you can go directly to v3, you do not need to load v2 to load v3

Second, you MUST follow the update instructions to the letter. You extract the .scn file from teh zip. You use BC_VUP to do the actual install, you tell BC_VUP where that .scn file is
You must enter your license key since this will be a major upgrade

read and follow the instructions exactly.

How are you "opening" the file. You should run the updater application and select the 2.0.0.3 file from there.

I just realized...you may be talking about the BC_VUP 2.0.0.3 updater. You run that to install the BC_VUP update program. You should have a new ICON on your desktop when it's finished.

That ICON is what you click on to run the actual firmware update.

In order to do the update...you must first get an ESN for your radio...now that you have registered it, you should have that option under "My Scanners" at Uniden's site after you log on.

I had no luck even going that far. I could never get that registration software to work to get the serial number because I do not have a AC plug and it instructs to use and it to remove the batteries.

Everything about Uniden has to be done in the most convoluted and least user-friendly way possible.

Using an AC adapter ensures that the firmware update isn't corrupted by a low battery condition. If you are certain that your batteries are fully charged, you can skip that step, but the advise to use an AC adapter stands (and is a fairly common safeguard recommended for any product that accepts firmware updates).

I am using 2000 mAh Eneloop cells, charged. But it's still not working, giving an error.

Would it be possible for you to provide details about the error? Which step does it occur on? What does it say?

Because we somehow have control over the power grid? The power dropped out briefly here four times yesterday - not all that uncommon in the winter.
