I just finished updating Sentinel for my 436 scanner
Updated the full data base to sentinel from uniden server, it took forever to finish the download. Is anyone else seeing slow downloads from uniden server to Sentinel ??
I have been noticing this for several weeks.

Yep, I've noticed the same thing several weeks back. As far back as the Sunday night RRDB pull into the Uniden DB server on May 8th which was missed or failed on Uniden's end.

It happened right after the Uniden server did not update on Monday May 9th as it normally does.
Joe Bearcat saw the thread about Sentinel not updating and had someone fix (reboot?) the Uniden server that handles the Sentinel DB.
When they did whatever they do to fix it and it came back up on May 13th, it has been slow ever since. It's slow to start after it determines there's a new DB version for you and the download of the actual data is also noticeably slower now than it was prior to that weekend.
I often wondered if they moved the Sentinel DB server to a new server or a new virtual machine on the existing server or possibly even a new internet connection wherever their server is located. Possibly moved to a new much slower internet connection or some intentional pauses were put in place to try and prevent the issue of not pulling the RRDB on Sunday night. Luckily this is not a very common problem for those that travel and rely upon the weekly updates.
Who knows for certain (other than whomever maintains the Sentinel DB server) what changed, but something definitely changed after they did whatever they do to get the server running and updated again when it misses its normal Sunday night pull.
I definitely noticed it was slow when it came back up on May 13th and has been like that ever since. It even times out occasionally on me where it never timed out before unless the server was truly down.

Either way, it's not really a big deal as it does still work, it just works a little bit slower now!

There used to be 4 or 5 servers running the DB to spread the load. Uniden are probably doing some network job and run on a backup single server with a slow connection. That would explain why the automatic transfer from RR to Uniden DB failed and needed to be corrected in the script to address the new server location.

I will contact the IT guys on this. Frankly when I updated Sentinel a bit ago I did not notice any significant speed difference.

I also am not aware of any change in the servers or number of them. I can't say there wasn't, but I'm not aware of any changes.
