hello!-Can't you do the upgrade utility online with a bi-directional cable like the one used for donn starr software?
Also, I would really like to record the transmissions that I pick up on my 96, but I am not exactly an expert. Ok, I'm probably not even novice; without donn starr- I would not know how use some of the 96's features. I have *somewhat*looked into setting up my scanner for voice activated & suddenly remembered--WOW-- my cobra 10 mile "walkie-talkies" have controlled vox. I would really appreciate some step-by-step info or options & would prefer to record on my dell and ofcourse not spend a lot of cabbage. Can someone help me? Better yet I would prefer to pick up a brand used computer for under ten bucks at goodwill and leave my computer the dell out of it. ok-not funny please help!!

I have no idea what you are talking about when you say "upgrade utility online" but I can help you with recording. There are many recording programs out there but I use and like a program called Xcorder. It is a free download and very easy to setup. You will need to run a cable from your radios headphone jack to the mic or line in to your computer. From there just run Xcorder and it will only record when there is a transmission on the radio.

Xcorder is a great program, It is what I use. The only thing you need is a cable to connect the scanner's headphone jack to your soundcard's Line in Jack. It is self contained and doesn't need to be installed. The feature I love is that it creates a new file at the top of every hour, which makes for easy archiving. Its available from http://www.xcorder.com/downloads.html.

checking out both of them!

THANKS and hey THANKS to both of you and your input to help me. I actually got the notify e-mail of the "whoops" as I was checking out the xcorder websites. Two replies, then three--SO QUICK. I scan 24/7 & I can hardly go 24 hours w/out "checking in". GOT THE FEVER?-YEAH!! Thanks again.

xcorder help

can someone please tell me how to get my input to go above the lowest threshhold? Input barely even registers, not enough for even the lowest setting.

thanks,

cable question

does anyone know what the name of the line-in cable is called? I used to use Scanrecorder years ago, and I downloaded it again just now for the holiday weekend. I need the cable to connect the scanner headphone jack to the computer sound card....I can't remember what the cord is called. Dumb question I know, cables/cords and such isn't my forte. Thanks and happy listening .
