I posted my install some time ago, perhaps febrauary before I got the 'systems 9000' head installed, then it was a model 7 head.
The VHF CDM1250 has mostly railroads programmed, as well as a block of amateur repeaters and simplex.
The XTS has a lot of stuff in it, but primarily monitors the downriver trunked system (3600 baud). I've had it since before digital scanners came out for sale (but only by aroudn 3 months) and has served me well, a new battery here and there of course, but that's all.
The Spectra handles my analog 800 needs, which is growing sparce these days. It doesn't see all that much use actually, except for when I'm at school.
I'm not out to debate "how" I got them programmed the way they are, but I'm smart in the way it was all done such that there is no ill-effects on my part toward the systems monitored.

That's a 1997 Ford Escort LX/Sport.
And yes the speaker is attatched to the brake, the bracket slides right over it and holds it firmly. My friends will tell you that I like to use my E-Brake, and that the speaker doesn't make it tough to do at all. There's another speaker on the back of the center console, but it's not-pictured.

Systems running smartnet can be passivly monitored if programmed correctly. If you don't know what you're doing, then it shouldn't be attempted, that's the "smarts" involved. Some people do things like have microphones hooked up, or 'tx inhibit' on rotary switches disabled, or simply leaving affiliation fields set to "automatic" in other words, things that should be avoided.

Just because the cop doesn't know you were doing 100 m.p.h., that doesn't make it legal.
No difference here with radio systems, just because your are "smart", and the administrator doesn't know your are there, doesn't make it legal. Just a thought. Leave the radio out of picture and you would be hassled about being on a system illegally.

Seriously people, mind your own business and worry about things that concern you. You don't need get into a big debate every time someone has a trunking radio. Let it go, it's none of your business. If he is doing the wrong thing then the appropriate people will handle it. Life is too short to be getting worked up over things like this.
