Hey folks,

Live in Anchorage, and have a pro-164 scanner. Recently, I've been thinking about taking a dive into a digital world (specifically ALMR). Question is - is there really a whole lot more activity on the system than what am already getting on non-digital? Sounds like the troopers (MAT-COM and Soldotna) are mostly encrypted - are there other talk groups (law-enforcement and not) worth listening to? Specifically the southcentral area?

Not looking for a very detailed answer, just a summary of general listening experience...

Part two of question: Does anyone get UAA pd on their devices? Database says they are part of ALMR - but it says the same thing for ANC Airport PD, and I am able to pick that up at 851.35000 - a freq which is not listed anywhere.

Thanks.

Are troopers really all encrypted? We are planning a trip next summer and I'm starting to plan the scanner setup now. How does the Pro-106 handle the AK system? Does it pull the tables from the control channel? Anyone's input is appreciated!

Troopers are mostly encrypted. Soldotna and Fairbanks have encrypted dispatch from what I've heard, but Mat-Com(MatSu valley and borough) has been in the clear this past month. There are other local police departments on ALMR that are mostly in the clear, like Seward, Valdez and some Fairbanks. Some fire departments and most military bases use ALMR, as well as state DOT. And yes, tables are pulled from the cc.

Thanks! Is the RRDB list of tower sites fairly accurate/complete?

It's accurate from what I can tell. I just have control/alt channels programmed. The trick with them is that one control frequency can repeat throughout the system on a different site. So, after eliminating all the duplicates I was able to get the list down to about 34-35 frequencies, and program most of them without splitting the system up. Message me if you have any more question about area scanning..
