I am a registered Win96 user and have been using v 01.28 for several years. Recently, I upgraded to v01.59. The software loaded fine and worked well under the trial period, but it would not accept my registration name and key. I tried to enter it several times and checked to make sure that I had it correct, which I did.

Now the trial period has expired. Presumably, I can download the new version again, but the same thing will happen again, I suspect. Is there some secret to getting it to accept the existing name and key?

If your key was issued after 01 Mar 2004, any version of Win96 version 1.29 and later will accept it.

However, you say you've been using version 1.28, which means you likely registered Win96 before 01 Mar 2004 (i.e. you have a Win96 key that references a "registration number"). If that's the case, you would've been sent an email (along with all other registered users) on 01 Mar 2004 inviting you to request a "new format key". If you were among the 95% of registered users that took advantage of that invitation, the key you were sent later will work (see first sentence above). if you did not take advantage of that invitation, your pre-1.29 key may no longer work (as the email and web site indicate); unfortunately, I don't maintain records of the details of every individual registration more than a few weeks.

Thanks, Don. I do not have the message offering me a revised registration key and may have missed it because of an e-mail address change.

What I do have is an e-mail from you dated 12/2/2003 giving me my original Win96 key, which now doesn't work.

I also have my Win500 registration key, which I received from you online on 12/19/2008 after purchasing Win500. If the formatting is the same, perhaps that key would now let me open the new edition of Win96. Haven't tried that.

Is there any way to generate a proper, new Win96 key for me if I send you the old registration key (from 2003) by private e-mail (rather than posting it here)?

Alternatively, I will buy a new copy of Win96, but I'd obviously prefer to avoid that if possible.
