When registering, after you select "Radio Scanners" the page reloads and prompts you to select the model to register. If you are not looking closely, it could look like the page just reset, but there is a new prompt there.

Thanks for your reply 'U' but it doesn't help. Again, I haven't registered
anything as the site will not let me in the first place. Had no chance
to make a mistake!

Click on "Register a Product" in the right panel. That link is definitely there, as you showed it in the picture you posted in Post 19.

Look at my image above. That's after selecting 'radio scanners' and
after several attempts. There is nothing there as far as a new link or
a selection of scanners. Note: That 'is' after I clicked 'register a product'.
The page comes back from the start with nothing new on it. Tried many
times yesterday and today, same results.

I looked at the image. Actually, I did one better and logged in as you. Clicked on "Register a Product." Selected "Radio Scanners." Selected "BCD396T". Then I stopped and backed out of all that as I don't know your scanner's details.

BINGO! Thank you VERY much UPMan. Don't know if you did some kind of reset
on the site for my login or what but for the first time it worked. Super, what a
blessing. Thanks again UPMan and to all for your help..... Craig

UPMan if still around, what is the UASD Installer Ver 1.10 and is it
needed? My computer; Windows 7 Pro. FYI, all else went perfectly
on the BCD396T. Firmware at 3.02.02. Unit still uploads very slow
but when done work just fine. Memory @ 42%

Don't forget that UASD was never updated to account for rebanded systems.

What baud rate do you have set in the 396T and your computer?

Baud rate in the unit defaults to 115200 bps,
computer same. Unit at 45%. All loads fine
but extremely slow. Don't have that issue with
the BCD996XT, P2, etc.

About the only thing I can think of is are you using the Uniden DB-9 serial cable or the USB-Serial adapter cable PC Interface cable?

If is the USB-Serial adapter cable it is very important to load the Uniden driver first BEFORE plugging in the 396T into the computer. If you don't do it this way Windows will load a generic Microsoft driver that is anything but fast (if it works at all).

The USB-serial adapter cable will have a large bulge in it where the serial convert chip is located.

To use Freescan to download trunk systems to your scanner, don't you need to have a premium subscription to RR?

Yes you do. However, you do not need a full year; they offer small times too.

While it's certainly easier to use web imports for programming via software if you are a Premium Subscriber, don' forget that FreeSCAN has EZ-Grab. You'll see the button to use it at the group level on a system. It's made to copy information from a web page, then you can define the field where that data goes. It may take a little practice on your part to use, but it does work.

If you can copy and paste, EZ Grab is easy to use. I built my entire programming file using EZ Grab and FreeScan/

Cost? $00.00

N0UDG - Yes I have the USB cable with the 'bulge' and
the proper driver installed. Earlier in the thread someone
else stated they had the same 'extreme slow' upload issue.
Again, doesn't happen with any other model. It does start off
at normal speed then about half way drops to a crawl.
Definitely odd but can live with it. When done, works great... Thanks

I was hoping we users could find something you could do to address your very slow programming load speed but the only thing I can think of now is the health of your EEPROM Chip inside your 396T.

As the EEPROM chip runs out of room for “load leveling” things really start to slow down, indeed if they really get slow then you may be looking at EOL (end of life) situation for that component. This is dependent on the electrical and thermal history of this chip and of course the ever present “Silicon Lottery” (how good a chip it was to start off with).

I did a RR site search for other 396T owners complaining of very slow programming rates but did not find but one. I think this is a much better indictor than two people with the slow load speed and two people without the slow load speed when using the 396T. Perhaps I did not choose the best key words in my search?

I know I change my programming a lot (like most of us scanner enthusiasts) and having such a slow programming speed would drive me nuts. So good luck and I sure hope you find a solution!

One other thing, when downloading from the scanner to the
computer the speed is constant (normal) throughout the
entire process. Also (I guess two things) the unit was
apparently NOS. Not one scratch or any indication of use.
It might have been 'demoed'? (if that's a word) when it
came out of the box (didn't have one) back in the day.
And yes I'm always 'tweaking' as well. I do know I couldn't
afford a P2 so this came along and when done it works great!
Thank you James...
