Good Afternoon,
Just purchased a Radio Shack Pro 106 scanner. I have tried both the free and paid software and as of yet been unable to upload any frequncies to my scanner. I have follwed both the written instructions and videos and feel that I have installed everything correctly. It almost seems like my key registation info isn't correct or the USB cable is not functioning. I have steup my lists on the software correctly, I have followed the instruction on setting up the proper USB port and I get an error message stating that ports must be from 1-16 and i'm using com4. Also not sure it I'm registered. I have followed the process by clicking on the help icon and then entering the key 1 &2 info which was sent to me on my email. Just took everything back to radio shack and they have no idea whats wrong. I have had this unit for about 4 days and it hasn't made a noise, even after loading frequencies from the v-scan. I must be doing something wrong but have no idea. Thank you for any help you can give

Pro 106 uploading

First, I am not aware of any free software, only trial versions of Win 500, Arc 500, and PSREdit 500, which all require payment after the trial period. Secondly, V-Scan folders are probably out of date and therefore useless due to system and talkgroup changes. Use the device manager in Windows to find your Com port after your cable is plugged in. In addition to the programming software, make sure the driver software for the cable installed correctly. If you don't see a Com port in the device manager, uninstall and reinstall the driver and software. When the cable is not plugged in, you will not see the Com port listed, and it is a good adea to use the same USB port each time you use the cable.

maybe

If you are using the Win 500 program, open the program and go to the monitor/control tab. Hit the stop button and then try to upload. If that don't work then I don't know.
Good Luck
ps: That stop button also has to be hit in order to highlight the grayed out portions of the Monitor/Control tab.
