Whistler beat Uniden to the punch, plain and simple. Whistler has lived up to it's obligations. No arrogant spokesperson needed, no "secret" avatars, just good business practices of doing what they say they are going to do.

I have several Uniden scanners, (996XT's, 996P2's, 396XT, etc) and went out on a limb and bought a TRX-1. I am very pleased with it, and I just got the NXDN update, and didn't have to pay extra for it. That's what I'm talking about. That, and any future mode release more than pays for the difference in pricing between Uniden and Whistler.

While I think the whole "objects" and "law talk / law tac" and other such dumbed down nonsense is ridiculous with the new scanners, I am thankful I can still program it the "new old fashioned" way with my laptop and software.

I am very happy with my Whistler purchase. DMR and NXDN have been coming in loud and clear, and the learning curve is getting easier to navigate.

Some folks are peeved with Whistler over the Radio Shack Pro-668, but Whistler never promised in any way shape or form that the Pro-668 would be upgraded to DMR.

I guess we'll have to see what UPMan has up his sleeve. I agree with you that the shifting avatars are tiresome and junior high school-ish.

Even if the Pro-668 would support DMR or NXDN, the problem becomes this just poaches into their market for new products assuming there are not other problems or challenges.

If a vendor makes a older product better or offers features in a lower cost product, it eats away for the desire for anyone to buy a "flagship" product that likely has a higher profit margin.

Unfortunately we are ALL at the mercy of the bottom line profits of any company.

Uniden has yet to live up to its obligations. Advanced analysis features have yet to be seen.

When there is a problem, admit it as soon as possible.

Customers are not stupid. Ignoring or denying a legitimate problem is not the way to handle it.

Maybe the increasing signal strength portrayed indicates Uniden has acknowleged and been working on a fix for the noise/UHF reception issue on the 436...

LOL ! ...and/or they're getting there with a fix for reliable DMR simplex decoding on the BCDx36HP.

Get your credit card out.... NXDN probably about to hit Uniden since Whistler has it out already, or the siren app works now.. or whatever that you will have to pay for. :)

NXDN
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear
A song, a song, high above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea
NXDN
Sorry I could not help it

It means their release will be above the competition. I wish they would prerelease the beta like they did with DMR I had a lot of fun looking for updates and test new releases.

I may be mistaken, but I seem to remember Upman saying that the $60 price for the DMR upgrade was temporary, and the final price would be set by the end of the year.

So the first bar is $50, the second is $60, and the third? $75? $100? Anyone want to guess?

The price for the extreme upgrade for the HP1 was $100, I remember, so it could very well be that the final DMR upgrade price will be $100.

Im becoming more convinced that the last bar represents our expectations of uniden adding NXDN, and the first two bars represent unidens actual capabilities......i.e. falling well short?
