The greater Las Vegas valley has just experienced a major rainfall event which has resulted in serious urban street flooding in many parts of the valley. Needless to say numerous drivers lacked appropriate judgement and drove into flooded areas trapping their vehicles and sometimes themselves requiring swift water rescue by fire department units. Various public works agencies (Clark County 154.100, LV City 453.425, State DOT NSRS TRS TG ID 06-021, and Henderson City 155.925) have become active and some of it is good listening. Many intersections are flooded and closed but still idiots attempt to drive thru them. Surprise. So in addition to the usual public safety frequencies and talkgroups on trunking systems a few others are worth listening to.

I just drove to the west end of town from the east end. On top of flooding there are a lot of power outages. I was almost hit several time because people assume since the traffic lights are not working, they don't need to stop at all. Be careful if you're going to be out and about in the valley.

Urban Street Flooding & LV Drivers

I think several years ago the NV State Legislature tried to move such a bill thru the assembly & senate but failed. I suspect that their members drive just as bad as most everyone else in NV. Sunny skies for now. Mt. Charleston had snow and a county plow was active (154.100) and on the NSRS TGID 06-031 NDOT on Mt. Charleston was also active.

You know, I responded to a couple of those swift water rescues, and most of them are no where near as exciting as they sound! One was just a fire truck pulling up next to the trapped car and the guy hopping from his car to the fire truck!

I guess that's all well and good, but as a photojournalist I wanted something cooler! Helicopters and Baywatch type stuff! Oh well...
