You're not going to hear the UHF air to air or air to ground transmissions. You can catch the big birds coming over the Atlantic...11.175 and 8.992, Upper Sideband. You can also catch them identifying as "Reach XXX" on the MWARA Atlantic frequencies.

While those are certainly 2 to watch, along with the MWARA freqs (not just the Atlantic ones, by the way) there are a few other places to check; In addition, there's a very active mailing list for llistening to military (utility) comms, as well as a few Yahoo groups for additional information. See my answer on the Iraq frequencies query in this forum.

To hear these freqs, you would need a decent HF receiver - in some cases, even a good portable will do - and a good antenna (just the whip alone on most portables won't cut it for some of the weaker stuff). However, you won't hear the UHF stuff as the previous poster mentioned - I would bet that all that stuff (on satellites, I'm sure) is heavily encrypted.
There are numerous references on the SW Broadcast Wiki for receiver reviews, and a seperate Wiki just for antennas. Those will certainly get you started.
