Caught this today on 260.625. US Military station giving a stern warning to those pesky Brazilian satcom pirates to stay off the channel. They gave message in English and Spanish. Of course as one would expect, the pirate stations did not comply to the request.

Unless U.S. Comspat or another branch gets permission to do do some overseas RDF work, it's an empty warning at best.

Hmm...and what would they be doing saying it in Spanish, when if they are indeed Brazilian, Portuguese would have been more appropriate, empty or not...

Our tax dollars at work (sigh)...Mike

Ahhh, reminds me of the last time I turned on a CB radio. Same sort of crap, no different. Someone warning others off "their" channel. Someone ignoring the and talking in a foreign language.

Not much the military can do about it, empty warning, and they know it.

Nice strong signal, though.

If it gets really bad they will just resort to jamming the frequency when it's not in use , it's been done in the past.

Wow, that sure came across as desperate and kind of pathetic, and definitely ill-advised.

The warning in the clip that was posted here. How could any positive result come of it? Did he think the pirates were going to think "Wait - we're not supposed to be here? I never knew that! Oh no! I better shut down right now!"

I saw nothing wrong with it.

Sure has. I once heard Davidsonville, MD warn a US military user that they were on the wrong frequency and when the station refused to comply, Davidsonville jammed that channel for a full 24 hours.

This thread certainly didn't need to be revived after 5 years. Closing.
