US pirate frequencies?

Hello all,
I'm just getting back to radio monitoring and was wondering where the pirate stations tend to be found these days. It used to be common on 6.925 but I wasn't hearing anything there the other night. Has it moved somewhere else? One other question while I'm at it. I also recall hearing sw broadcasts from all around the world. Are any of those stations still active or has the Internet killed them off. I also recall hearing a lot of preachers on sw. two I recall are Melissa Scott who seemed to think we all owed her money and one I called the angry old man because he rarely gave his name and seemed to be angry at all of humanity who didn't see things his way. For some reason I find that interesting from time to time.

Melissa and the late Gene Scott are still on WWCR, 13845 in the afternoon, 5935 at night.

The other guy you're thinking about is probably the late Brother Stair, who is also still on the air; WTWW 9930 days 5920 nights.

John J/reviewbrah/the Report of the Week has a show on WWCR with repeats on WRMI. VORW Radio International starts with news and commentary, then moves to listener-requested music. Send him a reception report and song request, and it'll get played.


Radio New Zealand is still audible late nights here in Texas; not sure how Rx will be in AL. 13690 and 9700 are the best for me lately.


HF Underground is a good place to find current SW pirate reports. Generally in the 6900-7000 segment, there's plenty moving down lower depending on conditions.


There's still plenty of good stuff out there, it just takes a bit more searching these days. Have fun!

The North American HF pirate frequencies are still in the 6900-7000 kHz range, though usually aren't used at the top of that range. I have heard one on 6885 kHz recently. The link that GadgetGeek posted is the best resource for finding them.

Actually, 6970 is a very popular pirate frequency

4185 seems to be becoming a second hotspot for pirate activity, I've caught some there. Also, most are running USB, every now and then one might show up on AM.
