Uniden USB-1 problem

Bought USB-1 cable from Grove.
Downloaded and installed drivers from Uniden's website.
Plugged in cable and waited till it installed it.
Attached scanner to cable.
Changed ARC246 COM port to what Device Manager showed (COM4)
No work.

Changed to COM6 in Device Manager and ARC246. No work.
Uninstalled.
Rebooted computer.
Reinstalled driver.
Plugged cable back in.
Attached scanner.
Changed ARC246 to what Device Manager showed (COM4 and later tried COM6).

Had never used a USB-Serial converter before. Tried the RadioShack equivalent after this and that worked first try.

I plugged the USB1 into a USB port on the computer (not in a hub like the first several tries) and it didn't recognize it at all that time.

Any ideas? Known issues? At this point, it doesn't work at all. ARC246 won't communicate with it.

When you plug in the USB-1 do you hear the device manager "doorbell" telling you it is connected?

Check in Start\Control Panel\Performance Maintenance\System\Hardware Tab\Device Manager Button\Ports (COM & LPT), and look for "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COMx)"
x should be the correct comm port to use with the software.

Also be sure you don't have a PDA manager running.

Yeah, I was hearing the doorbell chime, could open Device Manager and locate the correct COM port.

I did have activesync running...maybe that's the problem. Didn't think about that. I'll try unloading that and try running the cable again. Thanks for the thought.
