USB-1 XP drivers with 32-bit Vista?

Has anyone been able to successfully use the Windows XP USB-1 drivers with Vista (Home Basic)? Uniden Tech Support says that they have been told that the XP driver will work with 32-bit versions of Vista. I have been entirely unsuccessful. Install program says the drivers were successfully installed, Vista says there are no drivers. Run the install program again, it asks me if I want to re-install or remove drivers. If anyone has had it work, please provide detailed information. If it is something simple that I have missed, please be gentle.

Just got another email from Uniden Tech Support. Seems like there is a problem with the current drivers and 32-bit versions of Vista. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. The reason for this is unknown. Uniden is working on new Vista drivers and expect them to be out "in a month or so".
