USB Cable

I just ordered a BCD996T to replace the BC-780XLT in my squad car after our system went digital. I currently interface my in-car laptop to the BC-780XLT via a USB-Serial adapter and a normal serial cable.

I've read that the BCD996T can use either serial or USB. Can someone tell me if the USB cable is a standard, or is it proprietary? I've believe Uniden sells it as the USB-1, but I'm curious if that's their number for a regular USB cable.

The 996 control is still serial the USB-1 cable is nothing more than a USB to serial adapter, since you have an adapter already you can simply use the supplied serial cable.
