• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I have both the BaoFeng UV-5R+ & UV-3R+. I had no problem downloading the USB programming & CHIRP for the UV-5R, and I'm having a blast using the software to program channels (I also have the programming software from BaoFeng, and it also works nicely).

HOWEVER, downloading the USB programming for the UV-3R+.....Unforutnately, that's a different story.

I tried to program channels into my UV-3R+, the computer shows me that the it's not acknowledging connection and/or data download transfer. I heard that there were bogus USB cables that had faulty chips in them, causing the problems stated above (and that this issue is happening both for UV-5R's & UV-3R's). But just to make sure, I re-downloaded the software for the USB driver. Unfortunately, it still didn't work.

So, I ordered a second, new USB cable & software, and tried to follow directions as best I can to download the USB drive. Unfortunately, it STILL doesn't work! I don't want to discount the likelihood that I got yet another problem USB cable. However, I'm aware that it could be software issues, or that I've probably missed a step in attempting to setup the USB drive (or my computer and the Windows Vista software?)..

Could anyone direct me to previous threads that may be able to assist me, prior to my asking further assistance here? For what it's worth, I'm using an HP laptop (purchased in '06), with Windows VISTA software.

Is this the same computer you used to program your UV-5R?

Windows Vista was known for not being too user friendly. It's also a possibility there is something wrong with your radio itself and not the cables.
